"Young drivers scheme" back in the 80s.
didnt do me any harm. it wasnt all about being sat in a classroom. it was about on the job training. being out with someone, watching how they do it. then, they watch you. then when youve earned the trust and respect, off you go.
my young drivers scheme lasted 5yrs!! not only did i go out with the drivers, i did yard/warehouse duties, office duties and garage duties.
this way, i had a good idea what went on and why. thats why when i got a job in the warehouse where i currently work, i was and am more able to deal with a driver and how his vehicle should be loaded.rather than some of the dim-wits what drive the flts.
thats why when i worked for an owner driver i was able to diagnose something was wrong with the wagon, and able to assist in its repair and maintenance.
the driver cpc should be something we all want to do. enjoy it and look forward to it. rather than feel its just another stealth tax, with someone teaching us something they know nothing about. teaching us something that we will forget by the time we leave the classroom.
and the training should be appropriate to the job you are doing at the time. what use is tipper training to me when all i pull is a tautliner.
if you change jobs, and become a tipper driver, you get more training, and say another mark in your book to say your trained on that job.
